The table is of spruce, the ribs and back are of cedar. The perimeter of the table and fingerboard are outlined with an elaborate border of inlay: ivory and mother-of-pearl in a background of imitation tortoiseshell. The middle of the finger board is likewise ornamented. The moustaches on either side of the bridge are of delicately carved ebony. The instrument is strung with eleven strings (five double courses, plus the single chanterelle). There are nine brass frets on the finger-board and three more on the top end of the table.
