Back is of two pieces of quartersawn wood, with a figure slanting slightly down from the center. Table is of medium-wide-grained spruce. Orange-reddish varnish. The violin is a copy of the Guarnerius (Joseph), owned by Pierre Rode at the time. Label reads: "Imitation du violon de Rode / Joseph Guarnerius fecit. / Cremone, anno 17 / Faite par Thibout a Paris, 1834", with the first and last lines handwritten, and the two middle lines printed, except for the last two digits of the date on the third line, which are also written by hand.
