Back is of two pieces of quartersawn maple with medium, irregular flames descending slightly from the center joint to the flanks. Ribs are also of lightly figured maple. Head is of maple as well, but not original to the instrument, and is carved into the figure of a woman. Table is of two pieces of fine-grained spruce, widening toward the edges. Orange-brown varnish. The body is a fanciful shape with straight middle bouts and rather Byzantine minaret-shaped upper and lower bouts. Label reads: "Geloant von / Schweig 1790 / Gustav Bestgen, Bern"
