Clarinet in C of boxwood in three pieces, excluding mouthpiece: upper joint, lower joint and bell. An original mouthpiece is of African blackwood. Three rather large ivory rings. The bore of the upper end of the upper and lower joints were lined with metal. 7+1 fingerholes. Eight brass keys are pin-mounted into wooden saddles, integral rings, and bosses. Flat, circular key covers are stamped with the device of a crown, a veiled reference to the firm holding royal favor.
Stamped on the upper section: MONZANI & CO/ 24 DOVER ST/ LONDON/1053 with the device of a crown above. Stamped on the lower section and the bell: MONZANI & CO/1053 with the device of a crown above. Stamped also on the lower section: PATENT with the device of a crown above.
