Back is of two pieces of maple. The joint is slightly to the right of center; the left piece of medium curl; the right of tighter curl. Ribs, neck and pegbox are of maple. Pegbox terminates in the head of a dragon crowned with a knob. The body is decorated in the manner traditional to the Hardanger fiddle: elaborate arabesques are drawn in ink over the back, ribs and table, and lozenges of mother-of-pearl are set into the perimeter of the table and back. The fingerboard and pegbox are also elaborately decorated with mother-of-pearl inlay. Four played strings, plus four sympathetic strings running under the fingerboard.
