Body has incurved sides and a convex back; back is tortoise shell inlaid on an ivory background; ribs are ivory inlaid on tortoise shell background. Two large medallions are located at the centers of the sides, one depicting Orpheus charming the wild beasts, the other the musical contest between Apollo and Pan. Four smaller medallions at either end of the sides and five more on the back depict the figure of Eros in tableaux celebrating the powers and attributes of love. The medallions are accompanied by superscribed French texts. The table has purfling of ivory and ebony; inlaid with mother of pearl leaves, and a recessed, four-tiered rose of parchment surrounded by an elaborate inlaid border of ivory, tortoiseshell, silver, and mother of pearl. Fingerboard and pegboard are covered with marquetry of tortoise shell, silver, and mother of pearl. The pegboard contains a central panel of carved ivory. Six posterior pegs.
