Three-stringed long neck lute indiginous to the Hausa people of northern Nigeria. Possibly a gurmi since scratch marks on the lower side of hide indicates strumming. Large gourd resonating body with hide wrapped in intricate fashion around, stabilizing the neck. Strings made of leather and graded in gauge. Possibly marks of a bridge, no longer attached. Lizard motifs pyrographed into the hide have been described as "power emblems."
